The Business of Marketing Candles
Thank you for joining me at Candles and Marketing online.
Are you struggling to grow your business? Do you strive to convince people that you have a wonderful opportunity, only to be left in the dust? Are you friends and family wondering if you're going to bring it up at the next gathering?
Let's stop and look at another way to approach our business and marketing our product. It's important to note that most people will begin to shy away the minute they perceive that you are are selling something. They've been ingrained over the years to shut down and glaze over so that they won't be tempted to buy. That's why, at most large retailers, the customer service representative is there to offer a welcome and assist if needed approach...then back away and let the customer shop.
Well, it's not much different in what we do with Attraction Marketing. We give the prospect or customer the information then we back away, let them think, keep them posted. We let them know that we are not going to force them into anything...we are just sharing what we do. If they are interested, great! If not, move on...but always stay focused and never, never take it personally. We did our job, we shared, and offered...now it's up to them to decide if it's right for them.
The most important thing to remember is that Direct Sales is more about YOU than it is about the product or opportunity. Be yourself, kind, gentle, listening and open the doors through being YOU!

Well, another week has raced by and we're still working our business opportunities and selling our products.

Can Men Sell Candles?
You might be thinking that candles are just a "woman's business." Honestly, I sort of thought the same thing when I started exploring our home candle business.
I thought a business that involved candles must mean hosting home parties, asking friends to host parties, and so on. Then I discovered all of the many ways to build our candle business and found out parties are just one of the many great options, for those that want to do them.
While women immediately seem to relate to this business because they love candles, I discovered it’s the fun and the simplicity that "everybody loves candles".
Well, 9 out of 10 people loving candles is pretty much everyone to me!
What usually first attracts men, is the money. There is a lot of money to be made in this candle business, because yes, practically everybody does love candles. And because of this, men have proven to be very successful at this because they have the advantage of relating to both men and women, about candles and money.
Here’s what attracts men, (and women!) -
The candle industry is BIG business - about $3 BILLION annually in sales
Almost everyone we know has candles in their homes
Industry statistics say to get out in front of a trend; and clean burning, alternative wax candles are the latest trend in a well established industry
The biggest consumer market is women, age 44 and younger, with families
Candles are low cost, highly consumable and people associate burning them with pleasure.
People will often buy what they want and what makes them feel good, before they buy what they need
Candles are purchased at about the same rate across all income levels, among all ethnic groups, and at all educational levels
Our candles are consistently rated as the best performing candles in the industry.
If, over the next 5 years we capture only 10% of that THREE BILLION dollar market we will be a $300 MILLION dollar company!
Based on those numbers, is the reason so many MEN are joining our company to cash in on this business opportunity! Industry Sources are Saying "The NEXT boom in candles will be in "Natural Wax" Candles!"
The demographics are in our favor. This information places our business in front of the bubble. We are on the ground floor of this business, like Microsoft and Apple were in the early 1980's.
As the target candle buying market age, they will most likely continue to buy candles, as will their children. This creates an entirely new market, the babies of the "baby boom" generation.
When you add all this up...you can't help but see what this opportunity is not only suitable for men, but for women too!

Just Say "No" to Pressure
Why is it important not to "pressure" or "push" your prospects and customers into buying your opportunity or product?
Have you ever been out shopping with your friends and run into a "pushy" salesperson? How did it make you feel? Did you want to flee the environment as quick as you could? I know I did and I have! I hate being "sold" on something. Just give me the facts and let me go!
You may not know this, but only 10% of the population respond to aggressive tactics; a full 90% will run, not walk, run away! I can't say as I blame them. If you're using this approach and aren't having much luck, there's a reason.
There are many, many other ways of sharing your opportunity with prospects and future customers. The main ingredient???? LISTEN to your market. What are they looking for? Why do they need it? Will what you have to offer actually benefit them and their family?
Get to know your people before you funnel your interests on them. They need to get to know you too! How will they trust you if you won't talk to them and get to know them?
Going into a partnership with any business model is a 2 way street. Learn together what will help their business and how it will meet their needs and dreams. It's a group effort!
